Music Tour

Last week a group of 44 music students and 6 staff embarked on the much-anticipated Music Tour to Port Hughes. For many students this was their first experience of life as a travelling musician. After settling into our accommodation, we had 2 rehearsals to fine tune our repertoire and then had a full performance run through after dinner, which was, this time, catered for by a local business “The Roaming Chef”.

Over the next 2 days we performed at 3 schools: Moonta Area School, Wallaroo Primary and Kadina Memorial School. Our audiences were fantastic and the schools really enjoyed our performances. The band played some popular songs such as “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns ’n Roses and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. while the choir sang hits such as “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry and “Hot Chocolate” from our recent Arts Production. The band and choir joined together for our finale, “Take on Me” by A-ha. The Year 12 band played an encore in Kadina which was “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds. Much fun was had by all.

Some comments from students:

Charlotte: I personally enjoyed running around late at night and playing spotlight. And the performance where the kids wanted Jayden to hit the gritty or play Wellerman, that was fun and such a treat to enjoy!

Jasmine: I had lots of fun and made memories I will never forget. My favourite would be the long drive to reach Port Hughes. The whole bus sang songs and we bonded and laughed and sang as if we were rockstars! My favourite memories were on that bus. Singing songs, playing spotto and everyone being together and happy. I will always cherish those memories and am so thankful to be able to have them.

Monique: Music Tour is always the best time! I couldn’t ask for a better way to spread music, share our learning, and close make friends!!
