In preparation for reading Morris Gleitzman’s novel Once, Mr Stoetzer’s Year 7 English class participated in a workshop run by the Adelaide Holocaust Museum in the Library. The students learnt about the important events which led to the Holocaust and were introduced to Holocaust survivor Andrew Steiner. Steiner’s experience closely mirrors that of the main character in our shared novel. Students were asked to colour butterflies which represents resilience and hope. The butterflies also act as a symbol of remembrance of the 1.5 million children who were killed during the Holocaust.
