Since the start of last term, we have offered a breakfast club in the mornings before school. Run by staff and student volunteers, food is available to any student that needs it and is served from the Home Ec 3 window. As well as starting the day with a bite to eat, students have been building social connections. The volunteers participate in serving and pack up, food prep and baking. Abbie in Year 8 writes:
Breakfast club is available 5 days a week 8.10 until 8.40 in the morning. Student volunteers run the breakfast club so you can eat something before home group. Speaking to one of our volunteers they say the breakfast club makes school more enjoyable as they are helping out and they have wanted to come to school more. Connor and Victoria are the two staff members who run the breakfast club. We serve heaps, but your biggest hit is the Weetbix slices and our eggs. We cook on Fridays to make the food fresh for the next week – hope to see more students there!
Breakfast club is only going to grow from here, with plans to run life skill programs getting students to participate in cooking and preparation of food, time management, kitchen etiquette and food safety.
We are also grateful for the support of Foodbank, KickStart for Kids and Coles Reynella.
