We are thrilled that a number of Year 11 students have gone on to apprenticeships after completing their VET Construction course with REC. This year the students worked on renovating a Housing SA site at Noarlunga Downs. They have done a super job and were very proud of their accomplishments as the house was handed over last week.
A big thank you to VET trainer, Cameron Hunter, for his work with all these students behind the scenes; following up on work placement, liaising with the DfE Industry Engagement Officer and mentoring these students to follow their passion in the Construction industry. Mention also to former REC teacher Peter, who spent some days assisting Cameron with the program.
The following students have gained apprenticeships:
Riley G: Apprenticeship CEG steel framing
Oscar C: Metal engineering apprenticeship in 2021
Tyson S: School based apprenticeship carpentry
Liam R: Apprenticeship 1st fix carpentry
Kaleb C: Apprenticeship carpentry
Blake S: Apprenticeship plumbing
Cameron C: Carpentry apprenticeship 2021
Adam B: Apprenticeship plumbing
Kane B: Apprenticeship CEG steel framing
The majority of the remaining students have enrolled in a VET carpentry course next year.
Our house site program was the first for the Southern region and we look forward to being involved next year with our next cohort of budding Construction workers.
