Recently a group of students were selected for the Pawz a While program, which aimed to empower them through engagement and positive interaction with Labradors, adults and peers. Those who participated developed skills in teaching the labs basic obedience and an understanding of responsible dog ownership. Students also developed their literacy, numeracy, social skills, empathy, effective communication and employability skills through participating in a practical setting. Another highlight of the program was students being able to develop an understanding of citizenship and their role in becoming an effective part of a wider community.
Paws a While is one of several programs coordinated by the REC Inclusion and Intervention team.
