Last term the Year 12 Child Studies class investigated the positive impact that technology can have on the learning and language development of young children. Over two sessions, the students in Ms Hesling’s Reception class were supported to successfully create a digital book, utilising the Book Creator App on their iPads. Together they discovered what a powerful tool technology can be to support learning. The Reception children learned how to structure a book, writing, and illustrating their pages with drawings and photos they took and uploaded. Interestingly, in their Evaluations many Year 12s reflected on the importance of clear objectives, appropriate time limits and the need for supervision to avoid technology usage having a negative impact on the learning and well-being of young children.
