This morning the REC Wayikuu Centre was officially opened by Minister for Education, Training and Skills Blair Boyer. Nearly 2000 staff, students and invited guests gathered for the historic occasion on Courts 1 and 3. They heard from former principal Caroline Green, former Governing Council Chairperson Barry Temme and Member for Hurtle Vale Nat Cook. Featuring performances by the primary djembe drummers and secondary choir, the highlight of the event was inducting old scholar and basketball legend Brett Maher into the REC Hall of Fame. He even shot a few hoops with the Minister!
