Bringing German Traditions to Life for Year 8 Students

As part of our recent unit on Holidays and Festivals, Year 8 German students have been diving into the rich traditions of German-speaking countries. To celebrate Adelaide German Week, our classes took part in a creative project centered around Sankt Martinstag (Saint Martin’s Day).

Traditionally observed on the 11th of November, Sankt Martinstag is famous for its evening lantern processions. Children walk through the streets carrying handmade lanterns while singing traditional songs to mark the occasion.

To honor this celebration, our students crafted their own lanterns, decorating them with words and imagery that represent German-speaking regions. The result was a collection of beautiful, thoughtful work that showcased a fantastic connection to the cultural topics studied in class.

Well done to our Year 8 language learners for their wonderful efforts and creative enthusiasm!
