Our debating team has finished the home and away season in outstanding form, recording a perfect 5–0 record.
In their final debate, the team faced Nazareth on the topic of whether the AusAlert emergency alert sent to mobile phones last month was a waste of taxpayer money. Our team argued against the topic and secured another win.
The debate was also a challenge for the students, with only 90 minutes to prepare their arguments before taking to the floor. Ameeran A, Sophie W and first-time debater Tilly H represented Reynella East College and delivered a strong performance.
It was a particularly impressive night for Tilly, who took part in her first ever public speaking debate. Her confidence and ability impressed the adjudicator, who was amazed to learn that it was her first debate.
We are proud of the way our students continue to develop their skills, build confidence and represent our College.
The team now moves into the finals, with their quarter-final taking place on Wednesday, 9 September at Nazareth. Their opponent and topic are yet to be announced.
A special thank you to Andre Dobie for his ongoing support of the team, and to Nikki Cook for coming along to support our students on the night.
Congratulations to our debating team on an outstanding home and away season. We wish them all the best for the finals!
