During the April school holidays, the 2026 National BMX Championships were held in Shepparton, Victoria. With almost 2,300 entries, it was a huge event for riders and families from across Australia.
The championships gave riders the chance to earn an A Plate by finishing in the top eight. The event was also an important qualifier for the 2026 World Championships, which will be held in Brisbane this July. Riders were aiming to finish in the top 24 of their class to secure a place on the Australian team.
One of our Year 7 students, Tyler H, competed in the 13 Boys class, which included 70 riders. Tyler rode strongly throughout the event and enjoyed every moment on the track, while his parents nervously watched from the sidelines.
After six races, including an exciting photo finish for third place, Tyler finished seventh in his semi-final. Although he narrowly missed a place in the Australian top eight final, his overall result placed him 13th in Australia. This impressive effort earned him a place on the Australian team for the World Championships in July.
Congratulations to Tyler and his family on this fantastic achievement. We wish him all the best with his training as he prepares for one of the biggest BMX events in Australia later this year.
