This week we start introducing members of the REC Governing Council. Learn more about them and their motivation for joining:
Tony Beach is our Chairperson. He has 1 child in Year 12 at REC and another in Year 10 at another school. Tony says:
“I joined to help primarily with fundraising and over my time with REC this has evolved, I have been a part of the fundraising committee, finance committee and now as chairman. As this is my last year I would like to leave knowing that the council will expand and grow REC into one of the best R- 12 schools in the state.
It has been my pleasure to watch students become a part of the council, teachers getting recognised and awarded for the efforts and dedication to the school and the students they teach. It has been an honour to work with other parents that show the same passion for the school.
I am also a member of the governing council at my daughter’s school, giving me an alternate perspective of how another school is run and how they engage with their school and community.
My partner and daughter are profoundly Deaf, so Auslan and Deaf culture are a part of my daily life. My son attends Army cadets, is currently the Company Sargeant Major and wants to join the Army when he finishes school.
I volunteer for most fundraising events (I love a good BBQ); it is a great way to engage with the school community, listening to parents’ needs, concerns and ideas, and bringing them to the council for discussion and review. I can support the students by leading by example, guiding them to be the best they can and achieve their goals”.
James Rundell is our Deputy Chairperson, with 2 children is Years 8 and 10.
He says “I want to give back to the school community and be part of the school progress. I spent 9 years on the council at Happy Valley Primary School and 6 years on the Happy Valley OSHC committee. I can provide unbiased decision making and opportunity for all members to have an opinion”.
