Work Inspirations

REC has a partnership with The Smith Family organisation and recently twelve of our Year 10 students were involved in one of their programs, ‘Work Inspirations’. It aims to inspire students to expand their knowledge and experience of the world of work, and our two days included a visit to the City of Onkaparinga Council at Noarlunga Centre. Did you know that the Council employs about 800 staff? In 5 diverse departments? We learnt all about it and engaged in activities including looking at house plans for building extension approval, visited the council chambers and had morning tea in the reception room. A highlight for Jaida was that she got to wear the Mayoral Chain!

Day 2 saw students visit the Hilton Adelaide where they explored job prospects across the site from Chef to Manager. They had one on one discussion with various employees where they could ask any questions and get quality answers. Students really enjoyed this and the fun activities they had planned. We also visited the STEM Works at Tonsley MAB where students explored the businesses on site and worked together in small groups to complete challenges.
